Media Interview: Suspected Gold Diggers, Guardianship, and Protecting Family Members with Canadian Family Offices
On October 26, Sherif Rizk spoke with Renée Sylvestre-Williams for Canadian Family Offices about what families can do when they suspect a loved one may be getting financially exploited in a romantic relationship.
While there are no legal mechanisms for family members to intervene, a guardianship application can be submitted if there are genuine concerns about a loved one’s capacity to make decisions.
Rizk emphasized the value of putting other safety mechanisms in place, whether through a power of attorney, promissory note, or family trust, to help protect the family while supporting their loved one’s independence.
